Discover More

Overview

Suara Falls is a spectacular 120-meter (approximately 394 feet) high waterfall located on the Suara East River, cascading down the edge of the Rohtas Plateau in Rohtas district, Bihar. Surrounded by thick forests and rugged plateau edges, Suara Falls forms a dramatic plunge pool at its base, making it one of the most breathtaking natural attractions in the region.

Situated about 40 km north of Sasaram, Suara Falls attracts nature enthusiasts, trekkers, and photographers, especially during the post-monsoon season when the water flow is at its peak. Nestled deep within the Kaimur-Rohtas hill range, this waterfall offers a serene escape from city life and a glimpse of Bihar’s rich plateau landscape.

Legend & Mythology

  • Local lore among the Kurukh (Oraon) tribe speaks of the waterfall as a sacred spot where forest spirits reside. Offerings of flowers and rice are sometimes placed at a small shrine near the top.
  • Folklore says that centuries ago, a Raja (local chieftain) performed penance beside Suara Falls to atone for his misdeeds, and the waters are believed to have purifying powers.
  • During the post-monsoon festival, villagers hold a small puja at the plateau edge, praying for good rainfall and prosperity.
